Welcome to Somborne Sessions!
Do you love live music? Read on...We have embarked on a quest... to put on regular live music evenings at our village hall, in Kings Somborne, Hampshire. Our aim is to provide quality musical entertainment, be it folk, jazz, blues... whatever. We try to book top quality professionals while keeping our prices as low as possible.
So come along and meet us - you'll be glad you did!
We think Polly & the Billets Doux wew the perfect band to kick off our series of music evenings.
Next up, on Thursday 1st December we are delighted to welcome two influential figures from the folk/roots scene who are taking time out from their regular commitments for ‘Another night off with Peggy and PJ”.
Dave Pegg, or Peggy, is best known for his ongoing role as bass/mandolin player with folk-rock legends Fairport Convention – a band he joined in 1969 and has been with ever since. Before that he played in a variety of Birmingham-based rock bands including The Uglys, fronted by Steve Gibbons, and Way of Life with John Bonham (later of Led Zeppelin) and when Fairport went ‘part time’ for a while in the eighties he also found time to fit in 15 years with Jethro Tull.
PJ Wright is the guitarist and lead vocalist with folk-rock outfit Little Johnny England, slide and pedal steel guitarist with the Dylan Project, and long time sideman with R'n'B legend Steve Gibbons. Feted as a guitar virtuoso, Wright is also a talented singer/songwriter and has been well received as a solo performer at festivals and clubs over the years.
The acoustic instrumentation will include guitars, bazouki, mandolin, dobro, harmonica and bass – but PJ promises not to play banjo, fiddle or sax. "Add Peggy's skills as a raconteur and one or two of my duff jokes and it should be an idiosyncratic, rocking evening of virtuoso fun for nearly all the family," says PJ.

I hope the title explains our approach," says PJ. "There will be a mix of my songs from Hedge of Sound, some Little Johnny England material, some of Peggy's songs and tunes from various sources, and a smattering of Sandy Denny and Fairport. We might even throw in a bit of Jethro Tull. Alongside this original material, we hope to play some cover versions of our favourite songs down the years."
