At the heart of Chilbolton, near Stockbridge in Hampshire, Chilbolton Post Office and Village Stores takes you back to a time where a friendly face welcomes you and the emphasis is on quality local produce.

The smell of coffee, freshly baked bread, pastries and savouries welcomes you each morning and Jo and David strive to bring you the the best food, using local suppliers.

Fresh pork, bacon and sausages from award winning Greenfield Free Range Pork, Lyburn Cheese, local cakes and quiche from Taste and Cottage Savouries and don't forget locally smoked Trout from River Test Smokery. Fresh fish from Cornwall is delivered to us within 48 hours of it being caught, you can't get fresher than that unless you caught it yourself and vegetables are delivered througout the week, so you have freshest choice around.

Owtons at Kimbridge traditional butchers have traded in the Southampton area for 35 years and have now expanded to include Kimbridge Farm Shop.

With its idyllic setting Kimbridge seems the perfect setting for Owtons vision of the perfect farm shop. With quality local produce at the forefront we aim to bring you the best of what Hampshire can provide.


We work with 20 local farmers providing us with the best Pork, Lamb and Beef from around the area, including Beef from our very own farm in West End, Southampton.

Our knowledgeable onsite butcher is able to provide you provenance and advice on which cut to choose with cooking advice where necessary.

River Test Smokery

 

Welcome

Set by the banks of the famous River Test, in the heart of the beautiful Test Valley in Hampshire, we have built our reputation on the belief that only the traditional methods of smoking achieve the highest quality product.

From humble beginnings smoking small numbers of trout caught from near-by riverbanks by fisherman and friends alike, we now have over 10,000 trout and salmon brought to us each year.

Fisherman from as far afield as Switzerland, entrust us with their prized Scottish salmon catches, arranging for the finished product to be sent by air-mail back to their home.

Our customer base has grown slowly by word-of-mouth, whilst our ethos remains the same. Care and individual attention is given to each fish.

With our knowledge and experience, each fish given to us is cured and smoked for just the right length of time.

Products

All of our fish/animals are sourced locally where possible. Fresh smoked products have varying shelf-lifes (confirm upon ordering) but can be frozen.

All orders should be placed by telephone (01264 860 813) rather than by e-mail.

Mail Order Service:

All fresh products (i.e not smoked prawns or mussels) are available through our mail order service. Postage and packaging is charged at cost (will be confirmed upon ordering).

Orders are sent by first class post in insulated packaging to ensure optimal product quality and freshness on arrival.
 
Please give 10 days notice for mail order goods as our products are smoked to order.

Collection from the Smokery:

Please telephone the smokery in order to confirm your requirements and ensure that the smokery is open and the product required is available (some seasonal restrictions may apply to certain products).

They are left in the chest freezer in the reception area, outside the main entrance, clearly labelled with the fishermans contact details (name, address and telephone number).
The fish are then in our system. When they have been smoked the fisherman is advised by telephone that his/her fish are ready for collection and that they can pick them up, at their leisure, from the walk-in refrigerator in the collection area.

If collection is during business hours payment can be made over the counter. Otherwise fisherman are trusted to put the money into one of the envelopes provided and post it through the door.

Fish Smoking Service

Based on the preferences of the Smokery’s faithfull clietele, and for convenience, fish can be dropped off at any time day or night, seven days a week.They are left in the chest freezer in the reception area, outside the main entrance, clearly labelled with the fishermans contact details (name, address and telephone number).

The fish are then in our system. When they have been smoked the fisherman is advised by telephone that his/her fish are ready for collection and that they can pick them up, at their leisure, from the walk-in refrigerator in the collection area.

If collection is during business hours payment can be made over the counter. Otherwise fisherman are trusted to put the money into one of the envelopes provided and post it through the door.

Smoking Prices

The cost for the cold-smoking service is £9.00 per fish up to 9lb in weight for smoked, pin-boned, sliced, interleaved and vacuum packed.

Fish over 10lb in weight are £1 per 1lb.

Cold-Smoked Unsliced (whole fillets) fish are £7.00

Hot-Smoked fish (recommended for fish under 2lb in weight) are £4.00

Small packs (app 200g) are available for cold-smoking fish for an extra £1.00 per fish.
